What is an Episcopalian?

Being an Episcopalian (also called “Anglican” in the world-wide community) means being part of a Christian denomination that traces its roots all the way back to the original twelve followers, or apostles, of Jesus!  The Episcopal Church was formally created back in the 1500’s by King Henry the VIII of England.  It was brought to Hawaii by the Hawaiian Monarchy in 1862, and today, St. Nicholas is part of 39 other Episcopal churches across our state.

Episcopalians believe that there are three parts to God – God the Father, God the Son (Jesus), and God the Holy Spirit.  This is called a “Trinitarian God”.

We are liturgical, which means that we worship using scripture and a set of texts.  The form of this liturgy also stems back to the time of the original twelve apostles of Jesus.  At St. Nicholas, we project the service onto a screen during worship.

St. Nicholas is a contemporary Episcopal church that truly welcomes people of all backgrounds.
