Onemalu

           St. Nicholas Onemalu Outreach

What is Onemalu?   Onemalu (sandy shelter) is a Hawaii State transitional shelter that provides stability for the homeless and offers a safe place for reassessment and opportunities to control their life's situation.  At the shelter, case management services are provided, that empowers residents to obtain and retain permanent housing, economic independence and long-term self sufficiency.  Multiple services are also provided to families, that include a cooking facility, adequate meals, client assessments, social services planning, job training, medical services referrals, child care, educational and life skill classes; and monitoring follow-ups after transitioning.

How does St. Nicholas Onemalu Outreach Planning Committee help? The Onemalu Outreach Planning Committee is working on long range plans on what our church can do for the folks at the homeless shelter.

What is Christmas at Onemalu?  Onemalu includes many families and children among the residents.  St. Nicholas along with other civic groups provide a Christmas party at the shelter complete with food, entertainment and toys.   The joy and happiness we are able to bring to these families brings us all closer to the love Christ wants us to have for each other.  We will be "tapping folks on their shoulders" for kokua with gift-giving, door-prize donations and or non-perishable foods to make up baskets for individual families.  Announcements will be made beginning mid-September.

How can I help Christmas at Onemalu? If you would like to help make a homeless child's Christmas a little brighter, sign up to purchase a present for them at the greeter's table.  Names and ages are listed on the sign up, and suggested price range is $15-25 per gift.  Our sister church St. Timothy's Episcopal in Aiea is reaching out this year by providing gifts for 32 of the families!

You can also help by donating your time to help setup the party or donate your talent at the party. We also need donations of  prizes for games. If you can help contact either Kala or Alice at the phone numbers below.
